The Hals’ Church belongs to the parsonage Hals, situated on the boundaries between Valley Fnjoskadalur and Pass Ljosavatnsskard and belongs to the Ljosavatn benefice in the Thingeyjar deanery.  Catholic churches were dedicated to the apostle Peter and annexed churches were at the farms Draflastadir and Illugastadir.  The present church was built 1859-63, but was consecrated in 1860.  This is a wooden church, which was the property of the farmer until the congregation took it over in 1910.  In 1923 and 1959-60 the church was repaired and in the 70.

An illuminated crucifix was installed on the apex of its gable.  The pulpit dates back to 1726 and the altarpiece to 1860.  In the belfry are two bells.  One of the priests at Hals was Laurentius Kalfsson, who later became bishop at Holar.  He established a hospital for priests at Kviabekkur on the Olafsfiord Bay.  An ancient, common assembly place called Leidarnes is down by River Fnjoska as can still be seen by the ruins.
