David's House, Bjarkarstigur 6. Home of one of
Iceland’s best-loved poets, David Stefansson from Fagriskogur
(1895-1964).
This period-piece detached house was built in 1944 and
contains the poet’s original furnishings, personal effects and his
library, which the town bought from his estate and is one of the
largest and most valuable private collections of books in Iceland.
The basement of the house contains an
apartment used by artists and scholars free of charge.
They are however required to share their accomplishments
during the stay with the community of Akureyri in
collaboration with the cultural representative of the town's
council. |
