Orlygshofn is a short valley
ending in rather a large lagoon on the southern side of the bay
Patreksfiord. It is named after the first settler of the area, Orlygur
the old, son of Hrappur. The valley contains the largest vegetated
area on the bay and a few farms as well as a cultural community centre
and a primary school.
The
farmer of the farm Hnjotur, Egill Olafsson († October 25th 1999),
has spent his life collecting all kinds of artefacts for his museum
and has put quite some emphasis on the aeronautical history of the
country. This museum is among the most interesting in the country and
well worth the detour, not to mention extending it all the way to the
sheer cliffs of the westernmost point of Europe, Latrabjarg. |
