Crafts
and Design in the oldest house in Reykjavik's centre (the
second oldest house in town). The sign on the house states, that
it was built in 1752, but it most probably was built ten years later.
The house was opened in May 2007 after a thorough restoration and
a new house was constructed behind it to house the Icelandic Crafts
and Design Shopping Centre. The rooms of the old house are used
for models of the old centre of town (Grjotathorp) from 1786 to 1886,
and in the loft are changeable exhibitions of quality handicraft
by many artists. On Thursdays one or more of them are
present to discuss their art.
During weekdays the exhibition and shop are open from 9 in the
morning to 6 in the afternoon. During weekends from 12 noon to 5
in the afternoon. On Thursdays it is open to 10 o'clock in the
evening.
