Each
part of the country is an example of the available building materials
at any given time during history. In the Alftaver- and Medalland
counties, quite a lot of lime grass grows. The wester sheep shed
of Alftaver shows us how it was exploited for the construction of the
roof of the building. A short distance away from the Sheep shed
is the ruin of the farm Kuabot, which was excavated in 1972.
Lime grass had also been used there for the roofing. The houses
in the picture have been in the care of the National Museum of Iceland
since 1974, and two years later they were restored.
