LAKES of SKAGI PENINSULA
This part of the country is not frequently travelled although the gravel road around the peninsula usually is in relatively good condition. Most people do not realize what they are missing by not making the detour from road #1. Anglers, however, who are familiar with this area, feel the growing impatience before each coming fishing season, and start preparations well in time.

ITINERARY

Day 1. The Skagafjordur area.
Drive from Akureyri for a sightseeing around the big peninsula to the nearest bay to the west, Skagafjordur, where you will be accommodated for the next four nights.  En-route are the fishing towns Dalvik (possible boat tour to Island Hrisey), Olafsfjordur, and Hofsos.  Attractions on th way are in these towns, i.e. folk museums, the Emigration Museum, the old bishopric at Holar, and in town Saudarkrokur are quite a few old houses.
Overnight in the area for next 4 nights.

Day 2 to day 4. Fishing in Lakes at Skagi

Selvatn, Rangatjarnir, Alftavatn, Skjaldbreidarvatn, Heytjorn

Anglers, however, who are familiar with this area, feel the growing impatience before each coming fishing season, and start preparations well in time.  Some of the lakes are not easily accessible by regular vehicles and some fishing spots are only accessible on foot or 4x4 cars.
The bait: Fly, spoon and worm.

Day 5. Varmahlid
Drive towards Varmahlid and visit folk museum in old sod houses at Glaumbaer open air museum. In Varmahlid is Iceland best White Water Rafting and Horse Riding Tours.

Day 6. Akureyri
Drive to Akureyri via Moorland Oxnadalsheidi Spend rerst of the day in Akureyri. The city offers you a unique charm and culture. You can find good restaurants, elegant shops, excellent museum and exciting night life.
Accommodation in Akureyri at hotel or guesthouse by your choice (optional)
