ITINERARY

Breiddalur: Valley Breiddalur is the largest lowland area of the Eastfjords and the mountains framing the valley are the highest  in the region (1100-1200 meters above sea level). The village Breiddalsvik bases its existence on fishing and fish processing. Tourism plays an increasing role for the community.

Day 1. Pick up the car today and head to Breiddalsvík area via road #1 over Breiddalheidi through vally of Breiddalur. The salmon river Breiddalsa is the most renowned and prolific of the area. The village Breiddalsvik bases its existence on fishing and fish processing. Tourism plays an increasing role for the community.
Overnight there for the next 4 nights.

Day 2. Fishing In lake Kleifarvatn
Lake Kleifarvatn is beautifully situated in Valley Breiddalur a short distance from road #1 and fishing hamlet Breiddalsvik.  The lake abounds in 3-5 pounders, lake char and brown trout,
The bait: Fly, spoon and worm.

Day 3. Fishing In Lake Mjoavatn
Lake Mjoavatn is  situated in Valley Breiddalur a short distance from road #1 and close to town Breiddalsvik. The catch consists of both brown trout and lake char, mainly one to 4 pounders.
The bait: Fly, spoon and worm.

Day 4. Fishing In River Breiddalsa
There is a lot of sea char and brown trout in the Breiddalsa, mostly in the lower part. Many are of fine size, 2-4 pounds.
The bait: Fly, spoon and worm.

Day 5. Nordfjordur area
Driving to Stodvafjordur this village started developing around a trading post in 1896. It is situated on a fiord by the same name and the bases of livelihood are fishing, fish processing, tourism and commerce. The village Budir is situated at the end of the bay Faskrudsfjordur. Late in the 19th and early in the 20th centuries French fishing vessels were serviced there and the French built a hospital and secured sacred ground for the burial of the fishermen, who died on the long fishing expeditions to the Icelandic fishing grounds. Altogether 49 French and Belgians lie buried there. Then drive to village Reydarfjordur and Eskifjordur towards to Norfjordur area.

Day 6. Egilsstadir
Drive back to Egilsstadir and visit Mjoifjordur. This is an eighteen km long and a 2 km wide bay, accessible by road during summer. A friendly hamlet, Brekkuthorp, on the bay with a hotel and a restaurant welcomes the visitors with its magnificent mountainous surroundings.
