The
Iceland Glaciological Society was founded in 1950 to support research
of and travels on the glaciers of the country. Scientists and
laymen work together toward this goal and anyone can apply for
membership.
The society publishes a magazine, Jokull, manages
research expeditions and excursions, and offers its members
educational lectures.
The society owns and operates seven huts on and near the glaciers of
the country. Its headquarters in the interior are the Grimsfjall
hut on glacier Vatnajokull and in Jokulheimar near the edge of glacier
tongue Tungnaarjokull.
IGC offers all interested parties to become members
by e-mailing an application
(skalar@jorfi.is).
Those who need to contact IGC for other purposes, should use
stjorn@jorfi.is.
