Golf Club Kjolur was founded on the 7th of December 1980.  Its first golf course was constructed on the property of farm Leirvogstunga.  In May 1983, the club was alloted the land, where it is now.  The construction work was finished in 1986 and it was opened in July.

This town enjoys thermal activity and quite a few greenhouses have been built there. Since 1933 it has supplied the capital area with natural hot water for house heating, swimming pools etc. Every day thousands of tons of hot water are pumped through the pipelines from more than 100 boreholes in the mountains of  Mosfellsbaer.
