The land which was alloted to the golf club was quite a challenge because of the rough and hilly terrain.  The club members, however, overcame all difficulties during the construction of the course.  The result was one of the most beautiful and interesting golf courses of the country.  It was opened in 1963 and gradually the number of holes increased until the final goal was reached.  It has enjoyed international recognition and the club house underwent a thorough renovation in 2004. An outdoor driving range, the only one in Iceland, was opened in 2004.
