Seydisfj. - Lodmundarfjordur
5-6 hours. 12 kilometres.
The trail crosses moorland Hjalmardalsheidi (550m),
which was the main route between the bays in the past. The
uppermost part of the slope is steep. Two streams must be
forded, but river Fjardara is crossed on a pedestrian bridge near
Saevarendi.
There are quite a few old cairns enroute and the one on the top of the
moorland contains a guestbook. At Saevarendi is a eider colony.
There it is important to stick to the trail not to disturb the ducks.
The trail continues from the old road at Kolsstadir,
diagonally up the screes, sometimes rather steep. In valley
Kollstadadalur, river Selsstadaa must be forded. After crossing
the moorland, river Hjalma must also be forded. Just above the
ford, the river runs through a narrow groove, which can be jumped,
when the water level is low.
After crossing the Fjardara bridge, a detour could be
made to church Klyppstadakirkja, and from there at the foot of the
slope to Stakkahlid, where most hikers are accommodated.
This area is well worth spending a whole day for
further inspection and discoveries. |
