Akureyri is the Capital of the North, situated at the end of the country's longest bay,
Eyjafiord. It is the centre of commerce, all kinds of services and communications. It
offers diverse opportunities for recreation, such as aerial sightseeing,, boat trips and
land excursions,, horse rentals, museums, hiking, deep sea angling, coastal angling etc.
Just north of the airport, where the main road (no. 1) crosses the end of the bay, the
anglers stand waiting for the sea char and other species to bite.
And
they do not wait in vain! According to the most experienced
anglers the best time of day for angling is the morning and the
late afternoon, when the tide is coming in, and the best bait is
spoon. The distance from the capital is about 390 km by the Whale Bay
tunnel and the flying time from the capital is about 50 minutes. |
