Lake Alavatn is a small lagoon,
separated from the sea by a narrow gravel spit. There is some natural
fish, lake char and brown trout to be caught there, but the mainstay of
the catch is reared fish.The permits are valid for the whole lake and
only 8 rods are permitted per day.
Sea trout also enters the lake (2-3 pounders).
The distance from the capital is about 230 km (42 km shorter by the Whale
Bay tunnel).
