A small volume river within the boundaries of
the capital, Reykjavik. Unique as a very prolific
river within city limits. Still the closeness has finally had a harmful
effects on the river, which has been ailing recently due to pollution.
The use of its
water for electricity and other purposes and a recent outbreak of
furuncles has ravaged the adult and juvenile stocks.
Steps have been taken by local authorities to turn off the
hazardous path and only time will tell if the river can be rebuilt.
In 1998 the fishing hit an all time low of some 560 salmon
but 2011 catch was over 1100 salmon. The Angling Club of
Reykjavik is the leaseholder.
