This river has its main catchment in the valleys Hraundalur and Fannardalur and many small brooks swell it more and more on its way to the sea at the end of the bay Nordfjordur.  Its surroundings are mostly vegetated and the catch, which is usually good, consists mainly of char. There are many good fishing spots. The fish enters the river rather late and in most cases the season sometimes does not start until after the middle of July. The distance from the capital is about 780 km and 71 km from Egilsstadir.
