The fishing town Flateyri is
located 26 km to the south of the capital of the Northwest, Isafiord.
Flateyri has quite a few things to offer the travellers, such as
interesting and beautiful hiking trails, eider duck colonies, deep sea
angling and coastal angling as well. People like to try their luck by
angling from the mud flats at the end of the bay Onundarfjordur.
There they are almost certain to catch a few sea
chars, and sometimes they see whole schools of them seeking food. It is an unforgettable
experience to stand there on a bright and a beautiful summer's evening or night between
the majestic mountains mirrored in the bay. The distance from the capital is about 482 km
by the Whale Bay tunnel and the car ferry from Stykkisholmur. The flying time from the
capital is 45 minutes. |
