These lakes are situated on the
so-called Audkuluheidi. The eastern lake
Fridmundarvotn has an area of 2,36 kmē, its greatest depth is 1,15 m and
it lies 436 m above sea level. Its bottom is so muddy that it is
impossible to wade into it.
The western
lake Fridmundarvotn has an area of 6 kmē, its greatest depth is 2,25 m
and it is situated 441 m above sea level. Both lakes contain lake char
and brown trout. They were both netted in earlier times. One of three
main roads across the central highlands, Kjalvegur, passes very near the
lakes.
The distance from the capital is about
240 km by the Kjalvegur road. |
