This is rather a small river with its sources in the mountains, mainly two streams, Bakkaa and Gautdalsa. It discharges into the bay Kollafjordur, a northeastern inlet of Bay Breidafjordur in the West.

The surroundings are beautiful, vegetation along the river and the fishing spots are easily accessible. The catch consists of Sea Char and an occasional Salmon is caught furthest down river. 

The distance from the capital is about 245 km and about 50 km from Budardalur.
