This is a small and a short river. Its sources are mainly cold springs at the edge of the 1783 lava field and its surroundings are mostly vegetated.

Road no. 204 crosses the river and the fishing spots are easily accessible. The catch consists of big sea trout and sea char and occasionally a salmon bites as well.

The distance from the capital is about 285 km and 12 km from Kirkjubaejarklaustur.
