The two lakes, Grundartjarnir, have areas of 0,6 and 1,0 km². They are situated at 500 m above sea level in the valley Svinadalur. To get to the lakes the anglers have to conquer the mountain slopes first (Svínadalsfjall).

The number of fishing permits per day is not limited. The catch consists of  1 - 2,5 pound lake chars. The best catch can be expected during still and sunny weather conditions. The lakes are located about 1 km from the farm Grund.

The distance from the capital is 248 km by the Whale Bay tunnel and 26 km from Blonduos.
