Hofn is the only town in the country located in a navigable river estuary. Its main trades are the fisheries, fish processing, tourism and commerce. The spectacular panoramic view, decorated with numerous glacier snouts and a part of the largest ice cap of the country, is breathtaking.

The rich fishing grounds are near and the well quipped boats are used for whale watching, deep sea angling and other purposes. The catch belongs to the anglers. The distance from the capital is about 459 km along the south coast. The flight time from the capital is 55 min.
