Both lakes are
situated in the Skaga-Parish in the county East Hunavatnssysla.
Lake Laxarvatn has an area of 0,28 km², its greatest depth is 3-4 m and
it is 32 m above sea level. The
river Laxa runs through it and spills into the sea just north of the farmstead
Saurar (well known from the mythology). The
lake is accessible by car and a passable track lies to an abandoned sheep pen on
its northern shores. The catch
consists of lake char, brown trout and the occasional salmon.
Lakes Nesvötn have a
total area of 0,35 km² with the greatest depth of 3-4 m and 40 m
above sea level. Their
500 m long discharge is Klittalaekur connects them with lake Laxárvatn.
The catch consists of brown trout and lake char, 1-3 pounders.
The distance from the capital is 283 km by the Whale Bay tunnel and 16 from
Skagastrond. |
