Grundarfjordur
is a friendly fishing town on the northern coastline of the central
western peninsula, Snaefellsnes. Just west of the town is rather a
high rising, steep mountain, The Church Mountain. The Danish, who
lived in the area in the past, mostly merchants, called it "The
Sugar Top".
The
distance from there to the rich fishing grounds of the second largest
bay of Iceland is short. The deep sea fishing vessels are well
equipped and the anglers take their catch with them if they wish. The
distance from the capital to
Grundarfjordur is 187 km by the Whale Bay
tunnel. |
