The village is surrounded with an agricultural area, but the main basis of livelihood there is the fish. There are many places of interest in the vicinity, such as one of the few remaining sod farms, Burstafell.

Hotel Tangi offers deep sea angling on rich fishing grounds. The boat is specially equipped for the purpose and after a successful day on the sea you can have the catch prepared in the restaurant of the hotel.
The distance from the capital is 624 km by the Whale Bay tunnel. There are scheduled flights from the capital to Egilsstadir south of Vopnafjordur.
