Thorsmork Mountain Reserve
Husadalur

Thorsmork is one of the brightest pearls on the string of beautiful areas of the country, surrounded by rugged and majestic mountains, glaciers and glacial rivers, decorated with small birch woods and silver lined with humming streams. It is rather difficult to describe the charm of this area. It has been tried in the already existing literature with various results. The Icelanders appreciate Thorsmork (The Forrest of Thor, the thunder god) very much and visit it frequently the whole year round. Quite a few streams and rivers have to be forded to get there and no-one should attempt that without the company of experienced people.

Husadalur: Thorsmork Mountain Reserve offer a great variety of services like home made food for our guests, a canteen, which can serve up to 120 persons at a time. Service house is situated next to the canteen.  House is divided in two, one side has kitchen facilities for individuals and small groups with all the necessary equipment and table wear for  25-30 persons. 
 Thorīs pool and the sauna Be sure to bring your bathing clothes because nothing beats coming back from a long walk and be able to slide into a hot pool and soak in the mineral rich water that is pumped up from a drill hole just up the valley.

Merkursel

Merkursel - Accommodation for up to 32 persons

The first floor has 5 bunk beds, accommodating up to 10 persons.  Separate 2 person room with bunk bed.  Kitchen and cooking facilities with necessary equipment and table wear for up to 35 persons.  Bathroom facilities are also in the cabin.  The second floor, the loft, houses 20 persons on mattresses.

Vestri

Vestri - Accommodation for up to 24-32 persons

There are 3 bedrooms, two of which have 4 bunk beds each, accommodating 16 persons.  In the remaining room there are 4 bunk beds, double size, accommodating from 8-16 persons.  In this room there are tables and chairs.  Between the rooms there are cooking facilities with all the necessary equipment and table wear for up to 35 persons.Bathroom facilities are also in the cabin.

Austri

Austri - Accommodation for up to 26 persons

Thirteen double rooms. Bathroom facilities are in the cabin.

Cottages

Cottages - Accommodation for up to 40 persons

Each hut houses 4-5.  Cooking facilities with all the necessary equipment and table wear for 6 persons, stove and running water.  One bedroom to the back with two bunk beds, one of which has a double lower bed.  In the front room are also chairs and a table, seating 6 persons.

Just north of Thorsmork and east of River Markarfljot are the barren summer pastures of County Western Eyjafjoll.  Still further north are the summer pastures of County Fljotshlid.  Hikers on the trail between Thorsmork and Landmannalaugar pass through those areas. This extremely popular hiking trail starts or ends here. A hiking trail from Thorsmork to Skogar crosses  Pass Fimmvorduhals.
The distance from the capital to Thorsmorkis about 150  km.
