This itinerary of a self escorted tour takes you through the
valleys of Borgarfiord to cross the Holtavorduheidi plateau to Northern Iceland past Bru,
the crossroads for Strandir and the Western fiords. Continue to Holmavik, the inner
reaches of Steingrims bay, backed by high rock ridges, where you find the fishing and
trading village Holmavik.
Then cross the
Steingrimsfjardarheidi to the magnificent Westfiords. They feature the
magical and dramatic scenery of Europe’s westernmost shores and the
South-fiords regions to Reykholar and the trading village Budardalur.
To the classic sights and scenes of Iceland before returning back to
the capital.

Day 1. Reykjavik to Holmavik.
Leave Reykjavik and drive through Borgarfiord to cross the Holtavorduheidi plateau to
Northern Iceland. Passing the
Stadarasali
crossroads
for Strandir and the Westfiords. Overnight in the Holmavik
.
Day 2: Holmavik - Isafiord.
Explore the magical region of Strandasysla. Then head for Isafiord and enjoy the drive
along the bays enroute. Passing
Heydalur/Reykjanes
and Sudavik
before arriving at
Isafiord for overnight.
Day 3: Isafiord area.
Explore the Isafiord region. We suggest a boat trip on Isafjardardjup or a drive to Bolungarvik
and Sudureyri. Overnight in the region.
Day 4: Isafiord - Reykjavik.
Return to Reykjavik via the tunnel to
Flateyri then continue through Þingeyri to
Explore the
spectacular region of
Latrabjarg
then continue
to
Brianslaekur
and Flokalundur.
Then
drive along the South-Fiords to Reykholar, passing
Budardalur, then continue
southwards across Brattabrekka to
Borgarnes
before returning to
Reykjavik.
