This is an eighteen km long and a 2 km wide bay, accessible by road during summer. A
friendly hamlet, Brekka, on the bay with a hotel and a restaurant welcomes the
visitors with its magnificent mountainous surroundings.
The small peninsula Asknes was
the location of the world’s largest whaling station just after the turn of
the 19th century. At the mouth of the bay is a weather observation station
(1938) and a lighthouse (1895) accessible by road.
The distance from the capital is about 736 km.
