Mt
Dyrfjoll (1136 m) marks the northernmost boundaries of the so-called
Eastfjords. The name means the "Gate Mountains" and the gate is
really very prominent from different directions. This
mountainous area is a part of the oldest parts of the country (the
eastern basaltic area), which dates back about 16 million years.
The area around Mt Dyrfjoll, especially to the south and east, is very
popular among hikers, who enjoy beautiful and colourful surroundings.
It takes some serious mountaineering to conquer the highest peak of Mt
Dyrfjoll. |
