Oddskard - Weather Road Conditions

This village on the northern side of bay Nordfjordur  became an authorized trading post in 1895 and the village started developing around it. Until 1949, when the road from Eskifjordur was built across the mountains, the inhabitants relied mainly on sea transport. In 1977 a tunnel was excavated through the mountain and the communications on dry land were ensured the whole year round. Recreational opportunities  are varied, both on sea and land. There are many interesting hiking trails in the area. The easternmost tip of  the country, Mt Gerpir, with the oldest basaltic strata of the country, is nearby. Neskaupsstadur offers accommodations and restaurants.  If you are  heading to town Eskifjord, you should take a look at the road and weather conditions of Mt Pass Oddskard before continuing to Neskaupstadur.
The distance from the capital is 725 km.

Eskifjordur 23 km. <Neskaupstadur> Egilsstadir  71 km.
