This remarkable hillock is on
the southwestern outskirts of the fishing hamlet Bakkagerdi on the
Borgarfiord Bay in eastern Iceland. The bay derives its name from this
hillock. According to the ample literature on elves, this hillock is
occupied by the queen of the elves in Iceland.
A clear path lies all the way to its
top, where there is a view dial with the topographical names of the
most prominent features in the surrounding landscape. Both the hillock
and its immediate vicinity were declared inviolate a few decades ago.
It is well worth walking to the top of the hill without forgetting the
presence of the elves. You can learn more about those beings elsewhere
on the website. |
