Farms Alvidra in the Olfus County and Ondverdarnes in the Grimsnes County were donated to the Icelandic Environment Union and District Arnessysla in 1973 and the new owners agreed on a charter for the property.  Farm Alvidra is at the foot of Mt Ingolfsfjall, near the main road.  Farm Ondverdarnes is located farther east, near the ever expanding summer house area of county Grimsnes.

Farm Alvidra became an autonomous centre for environmental education and nature research for schools and the public.  Alvidra accommodates 25-30 people.
