This
symmetrical slag crater is located near Mt Helgafell, about 7,5 km from
the town Hafnarfjordur. The lava, which ran from it about 7,200 years
ago, branched into the bays Hafnarfiord and Skerjafiord. The name of
the 18 km square lava field is Burfellshraun, but many other names have
been attatched to its different parts. The crater is easily accessible
from the road through the recreational area Heidmork.
