The
farm Hof is situated in the eastern part of the Vatnsdalur Valley.
According to the Book of Settlements, Ingimundur the Old
Thorsteinsson settled the on the advice of the Danish king.
The Vatnsdaela Saga tells us about him and his relatives.
Ingimundur was a kind man and treated his people well.
Once he invited a man by the name Hrollaugur to stay as long as
he wanted and treated him well.
This man eventually shot a spear right through Ingimundur where
he stood on a mound called Godholl near the farm.
Ingimundur was so noble-minded, that he sent him a message before
he died and urged him to get away before his relatives came to kill him.
A
beautiful grove decorates the landscape near the farm.
The first trees were planted there in 1927, among them a few
Icelandic aspens (poplars).
The grove was fenced off in 1957.
In 1882-83 the Domestic Science School of the Huna District was operated
at Hof.
