Hiking Trails in Iceland

Djupavik is a former fishing outfit and a fish-processing centre almost at the end of the Reykjafiord bay. A Herring pickling factory was established there in 1917, but was declared bankrupt a few years later. The operation started again in 1934 and continued successfully for about a decade until the herring disappeared from the Huna Bay.

Nowadays the Hotel Djupavik is the only undertaking there. There are many recreational activities on offer at the hotel and no one regrets spending a day or two there. The distance from the capital is 352 km by the Whale Bay tunnel and 79 km from Holmavik.
