Hvalsnes is a farm
and a church site on the western part of the Reykjanes Peninsula. In
earlier times it was a parsonage serving the churches at Kirkjuvogur and
Inner Njardvik. The parish was abolished in 1811 and united with the
Utskalar parish. During catholic times the Hvalsnes’s churches were
dedicated to the Holy Mother, St King Olaf, St Catharine and all other
saints. The present church was built of stone in 1885-87 and
consecrated in 1887. |
