This beautiful and symmetric prototype of shield
volcanoes is very prominent from the Parliamentary Plains and also the
southern part of the Kaldidalur Route. This 1060 m high volcano was
created at the end of or shortly after the end of the last cold epoch
of the ice age.
Its lava fields and the whole surrounding landscapes
have been scarred with faults and fissures by the tectonic movements
of the area. The crater on top of the mountain is about 500 m wide. |
