This
cove with a synonymous hamlet is situated just north of the Trekyllis
Cove in the Strandir District. Many
of the houses are not occupied as most of the people have left.
A small shop is still open for the few remaining in the area.
The road continues through the hamlet to the Krossnes outdoors
swimming pool, where it is ideal to relax for a spell.
Another road leads to the farm Munadarnes on the Ingolf’s Bay,
and still another to the former fishing hamlet Eyri on the same bay. From there it is possible to continue in 4wd vehicles to the
Ofeigur Bay further northwest. Mt
Kalfshamarstindur (646 m) offers an excellent view over the Northern
Strandir District and the Huna Bay on a fine day.
At
the end of the road along the Nordurfiord Bay is the gully Storakleif.
Down below it is a freestanding rock
between the boulders on the shore. According to the
legend, bishop Gudmundur the Good sat in a hole in the rock and
consecrated the steep and dangerous scree, where people had to travel
frequently and many accidents had happened.
Since then people have been able to travel across them without
fear of accidents. |
