The
sheep pen Skeidarettir is situated just south of the farm Reykir in the
Skeid County.
Originally the pen was built in 1881 and was among the largest
and busiest after the regular round up every autumn, and also among the
most popular places for all kinds of gatherings in the Southwestern
Lowlands.
In
1981 the pen along with its nearby night-pen were rebuilt with lava
stones with a layer of sod on top.
The walls are about 1½ m high.
This pen is well worth the short detour from the main road to
take a closer look. |
