Skogar is an abandoned farm in the eastern slopes of the Thorskafjordur Bay at the foot of Mt Vadalfjoll.  The beloved poet Matthias Jochumsson (1835-1920) was born there and brought up until he was eleven.  His nephew, Jochum Eggertsson (1896-1978) spent many years foresting the estate with many imported species of trees.  In earlier times the name of the farm was Uppsalir.
A monument of the poet stands on the property.
