When driving to the south from Egilsstadir, people, who do not want to enjoy the scenery of the so-called Eastfjords, select road no. 1 through this valley. At the end of it, just before the mountain pass, it divides and a secondary road to the right offers a shortcut called Oxi down to the Berufiord Bay.

Near the mouth of the valley is the parsonage Thingmuli, where the ancient district parliament, The Mulathing, was held. Further up the valley the landscape clearly shows the signs of great landslides and a small lake created by them.
