The ancient estate Reykholar, was the domicile of a few of the most renowned people of the country.  The property offered, and still offers, many benefits, such as the Eider colonies on the coastline and 300 small islands off the coast, the rich fishing grounds in the bay and good grain crops when the climate was warmer in the past. The natural bathing pool, Grettislaug, reminds us of the Saga of Grettir, one of many Sagas touching this part of the country. Nowadays Reykholar is the property of the state and the location of a sea weed factory, which harvests the shallows of the Breidafjordur bay.
