Gjogur is an old, renowned fishing hamlet at the head of the Reykjafjordur bay. It is best know for its shark fisheries in the past. Sometimes 15 open rowboats left at the same time to spend a few days on the ocean shark fishing. Gjogur is one of the almost totally abandoned communities in this part of the country, but a bit further north the former farm Nordurfjordur offers accommodation during summer. Driftwood has played an important role in this otherwise deforested country ever since it was settled.

First schedule flight to Gjogur airport was 04.10 1993 when Birgir Sumarlidason pilot came there with first cargo by air fore this area!!
