This gorge represents the northern boundary of the Sprengisandur route. It is a narrow gully to the west of glacial river Skjalfandafljot, where travellers rested and grazed their horses before or after crossing the Sprengisandur desert. The northbound ones had the ghosts and evil spirits behind them and the southbound ones feared facing all those problems. Poems and songs have been composed about The Kid Gorge and the adventurous rides across the Sprengisandur desert. Nowadays people driving across sing them on their way.
During summer are scheduled buses are from Reykjavik-Sprengisandur – Myvatn and from
Landmannalaugar – Sprengisandur-Myvatn stop at Kidagil travel services.
