The upper fishing areas of those two rivers are in the lake Myvatn area. River Kraka is 28 km long.  Its surroundings are magnificent and the catch of the many fishing spots is fine Brown Trout.  River Laxa is the discharge of Lake Myvatn and its trout fishing area is 13 km long.

It branches between small densely vegetated islets and its surroundings are very beautiful to say the least. The catch consists of brown trout, 2-10 pounders. This part of the Laxa river is considered to be the best Trout fishing area in the world.

The distance from the capital is 468 km by the Whale Bay tunnel and about 80 km from Akureyri.
